For key development projects
Funding and technical support from CNES help to launch or consolidate local initiatives that contribute to regional development.
Supporting local sectors
CNES supports projects that make the most of local resources and skills across all sectors with growth potential for French Guiana. This applies in particular to fishing, agriculture and industry (such as the establishment of a fruit pulp-processing plant or a water bottling plant, and the modernisation of agricultural or fishing equipment and machinery, etc.), as well as services and tourism (renovation of accommodation, leisure facilities, etc.).
Direct funding from CNES and following up applications for national and European grants: a significant boost to the successful completion of projects such as the construction of an agrifood processing plant.

Contributing to facilities and infrastructure
Roads, transport, urban planning, health: public infrastructure and facilities feature prominently among the initiatives supported by CNES. These range from the rehabilitation of access roads for agriculture or forestry (the Mélanie Road or the Crique Loutre Road) to the creation of the health-care centre in Sinnamary, as well as the construction or renovation of school and university buildings.
The SCO OpHySE project (Operational Hydrology from Space and modEls), initiated by the company HydroMatters and supported by CNES, proposes a monitoring solution for rivers, vital for the inhabitants of the river.

Strengthening digital connectivity
From the pioneering telemedicine projects of the 1990s to the creation of the Station K FabLab, and through the ongoing digitalisation of educational establishments, CNES is supporting efforts to promote connectivity and digital innovation in French Guiana. Working alongside the CTG, it is involved in the construction of Lum@link, a direct undersea link to Europe.
The Lum@link submarine cable project, a future direct connection to Europe, is a major step forward for French Guiana’s digital sovereignty, trade security, and territorial development.

Sharing scientific and technical advances
CNES facilitates access to and use of space data for regional management, particularly in the field of health (forecasting mosquito-borne diseases, etc.), the study of climate, biodiversity (monitoring Sargassum, etc.), natural resource management (water reserves and quality, combatting illegal gold panning, etc.), or spatial planning (urban mapping, monitoring of coastal erosion).
Espace pour la Guyane helps professionals get to grips with the ConnectbyCNES programme to develop their business using space technologies. ESA has also set up an incubator in French Guiana to encourage project leaders to make use of space data.
Signature of the Hyguane project, aims to develop a low-carbon hydrogen ecosystem at the Europe’s spaceport.
