Space Tour 2021 awards ceremony
As part of the space component of the "France Relance" programme, 10 companies have submitted their projects on the theme of "Land use planning in French Guiana using space data".
Space Tour 2021, land planning using space data
"Space data is a valuable asset for land management and planning. I would like to congratulate the three winners, whose projects will enable French Guiana to harness this data and translate it into applications that can be used by decision-makers and the general public."
Marie-Anne CLAIR, Director of Europe’s spaceport.
On Thursday, 16 September, the three winning candidates presented their projects to the jury, made up of the Regional Directorate for the Economy, Employment, Labour and Solidarity (DREETS), the Local Authorities in French Guiana and the French space agency.
At the end of each candidate's pitch, the jury awarded:
- the 1st prize of €100,000 to EDEN MAP, a company whose project is to set up a system for identifying precise addresses using satellite data. This addressing application would eventually make it possible to connect homes to networks, manage land and land occupancy, organise waste collection routes, deploy emergency services and develop postal services, e-commerce, home deliveries, etc.
- the 2nd prize of €75,000 to HYDROMATTERS, which presented the SAGUI project (French Guiana Water and Air Alert System), a real-time monitoring system for environmental and climatic variables throughout French Guiana. The data collected will then be centralised on a platform and made available for monitoring and alert purposes in the event of imminent risk.
- the 3rd prize of €50,000 was awarded to 97PX, a French Guiana-based company, for its satellite image bank. The photos will be available on a dedicated platform and located on a map to give greater visibility to French overseas territories.
By combining this innovation with images from Earth observation satellites, it becomes a useful database for local authorities, research bodies and the private sector, which will be able to mine it for their own projects, from regional planning to environmental studies (monitoring deforestation, for example).
Another fine example of how space can be used to support regional development!
