[Education] Overview of the latest educational projects
It's back-to-school time! Here's a look back at what we've been doing over the last few months with the young people of French Guiana. All these opportunities have enabled us to generate interest in scientific culture, perhaps even in careers, and to encourage young people to pursue their dreams.
Presentation of careers in collaboration with ONISEP
CNES's employees presented their professions in a report by the French National Office for Information on Education and the Professions (ONISEP), which aims to stimulate new career interests among French Guianese students.

"C Génial" competition
Europe’s spaceport welcomed 150 secondary and high school students to the regional final of the 9th "C' Génial" competition on 28 March. During the event, which focused on science and technology, students presented their ingenious science projects. The team from the Léodate Volmar secondary school in Saint Laurent du Maroni won the regional final and went on to represent French Guiana in the national final.

"Spationaute, un métier de cœur"
The awards ceremony for the "Spationaute, un métier de cœur" competition, organised by the French Guiana "Campus des métiers et des qualifications" (MQ – Centre of Vocational Excellence) in Aeronautics and Space and the French Guiana MQ in Health, Social affairs and Welfare, took place on 26 May.
As a reminder, this story-writing competition for French Guianese pupils in years 5 to 7 involved imagining the adventures of an astronaut in the form of a comic strip or an illustrated text.
Ti Sciences Mag
Europe’s spaceport contributed to the last 3 editions of Ti Sciences Mag, the quarterly magazine for children 8-12 years of age.
CNES grant
On 19 July 2023, the French space agency grants award ceremony was held at Europe’s spaceport. On this occasion, 24 students from French Guiana were awarded grants to help finance their higher education.
Since the scheme was set up in 1984, 301 students have received a CNES grant.
"L'Espace c’est classe" (Space is ace) operation
Over the 2022-2023 school year, more than 1,600 local pupils benefited from the "Space is ace" operation, run in partnership between CNES and the French Guiana local education authority.
For this 3rd edition, CNES volunteers visited 19 secondary and high schools across French Guiana (from Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni to Cayenne, including Mana, Apatou, Regina and Grand Santi), to share their knowledge of space transportation and its professions. The operation will be repeated for the 2023-2024 school year.
"Connecting Guiana – Closing the divide" project
The aim of "Connecting Guiana – Closing the divide" is to provide high-quality education to pupils in years 7 and 8 who live in isolated villages in French Guiana. This educational project, under preparation, is due to start in September 2023 with a trial phase in Maripasoula, in the Upper Maroni region.
